You do not need to be an expert, performer or experienced volunteer. You need curiosity, reliability and the willingness to return.
Because intergenerational service changes both sides of the conversation. You can brighten someone’s week, but you may also gain patience, confidence, perspective and a more human understanding of ageing.
We help student volunteers learn how to start conversations, listen respectfully, prepare simple activities, work as a team, communicate with service-centre staff and reflect on what they learn after each visit.
hours per month
Flexible around school commitments. What matters most is not a large number of hours, but a pattern you can sustain. A dependable monthly or fortnightly rhythm is more valuable than a burst of volunteering that quickly disappears.
Be punctual. Be kind. Respect privacy. Follow the centre’s guidance. Never take on medical, personal-care or financial responsibilities. Most importantly, treat every older person as someone with a life to share—not a task to complete.
